For every tonne of garments reused rather than sent to landfill, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by around seven tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
This demonstrates the powerful environmental benefit of reuse.
Producing just one kilogram of cotton can require between 10,000 and 20,000 litres of water, highlighting the importance of extending the life of existing textiles wherever possible.
Textiles 2030 is WRAP’s new ground-breaking, expert-led initiative, harnessing the knowledge and expertise of UK leaders in sustainability to accelerate the whole fashion and textiles industry’s move towards circularity and system change in the UK.
With an official launch in April 2021, the new voluntary agreement builds on the learning and success of the Sustainable Action Plan (SCAP 2020) and aims to engage the majority of UK fashion and textiles organisations in collaborative climate action.
